Alice’s seventh year had flown by at a great speed. Well, it seemed that way now, anyway. Back in November, it had felt as though time had dragged on and on, with classes and homework taking up whatever free time she might have. In retrospect, however, it all seemed to have passed in a flash, and all of a sudden she was here, now, with not much more than two months to go before her time at Hogwarts was over for good. That was such a strange thought. This had become home to her, and from the start, she had been happier here than at home with her severely depressed mother. It would be strange indeed, leaving for good. The thought of returning as a professor had crossed her mind once or twice, but the impending threat to the wizarding world had caused her to make other plans. Her father had been an auror – and a good auror, too – and even though she wasn’t a vengeful kind of person and didn’t want to get back at these dark wizards simply for killing her father, she did want to help make the world a safer place by fighting them.
Because of this wish, she had decided already in her sixth year that she needed to focus on her schoolwork. It hadn’t been easy, since she was one of those people who couldn’t sit still for more than ten minutes at a time, but somehow, she’d managed to pass the necessary OWLs and was now practicing for her NEWTs in Herbology, Transfiguration, Potions, Charms and – naturally – Defense Against the Dark Arts. She knew some people thought even attempting the NEWTs was a waste of time since they were, as the name itself said, nastily exhausting, but an E or more in those subjects was necessary to be admitted into auror training, so she was going to go through with it. That didn’t mean the brunette had the patience to do nothing but study either, though. Besides her prefect duties, she did also have a social life she wanted to maintain, so she still hung out with her friends as often as she had time for. With some of them, that was almost all the time since they were in the same house and all, but for her friends in other houses, finding the time was surprisingly difficult. It shouldn’t have been hard at all, of course, since it would only take her about ten minutes to go find them, but as long as she locked herself up in the Gryffindor tower to study every day, it just didn’t happen that often.
Today, however, the Gryffindor girl had every intention of remedying that. The weather was absolutely beautiful as well, so she had to be able to locate someone outside. Humming to herself, she stepped into the courtyard with a bright smile on her face, green eyes grazing the area for a trace of someone she could hang out with. When she did not immediately see anyone, however, her eyebrows furrowed slightly and she stopped humming. How annoying. Shouldn’t everyone be outside enjoying the sun, or was she the only one who wasn’t tired of it being so warm quite yet? It could certainly seem that way, judging by how few people were outside just now. Maybe she’d missed some big announcement or something. That wouldn’t be very much like her, though, so she suspected the current emptiness of the courtyard was more coincidental than anything. It wasn’t that long since classes had ended for the day either, so that was also a possible explanation. Even though she wasn’t too happy about this, though, she decided she might as well enjoy the sun now that she was outside anyway, so with a quiet sigh, she strolled over to a bench and lay down on it, smiling as she closed her eyes.
